Pvt. Stone
A downloadable mod
WARNING: This game contains guns, gore, blood, boobs, violence of the gratuitous and funny variety, harsh language and explicit acts of
violence against demonkind- if you can't handle any of that, go play mario party or something.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Charlotte Stone is a brawny, bad-tempered space warrior hailing from the dark, dusty plains of Space Britain. The only things bigger than her hatred of Hell's putrid denizens are her lethal guns.
...and her firearms are pretty huge too.
Stone's weapons range from a space-age planet blaster, to a medieval arming sword. Despite this, her fists remain a viable combat option in any scenario, and hitting fire + altfire together once her adrenaline rises (indicated by the veins on her hand) will unleash her British Heritage Powers!
Load in the optional Kickable Props add-on and Stone will be capable of kicking almost any vanilla doom obstacle into next week. Be sure to load in your favorite gore mod too, Stone ain't squeamish.
Most features of the mod are customizable, with over a dozen options/toggles to make the gameplay as overpowered or as gruelling as you like. Check out the Pvt Stone Instruction Manual for a full run-down on weapon functions, gameplay extras and a list of recommended levelsets.
Check the credits file in the .wad for a full rundown on sprites used and music sampled, or the lore file for character/world info if you are so inclined.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONTROLS:
Altfire- quick kick (use while moving at full speed to perform a stronger kick)
Altfire plus Fire- activate british mode if charged (indicated by fist idle sprite as well as an audio cue)
Reload- reloads
Zoom- Throw grenade if blue meter is full, throw rock if half full, taunt if empty.
Pvt_Stone.wad should be compatible with most Doom mapsets/monster add-ons, and works especially well with tougher megawads. I highly recommend Revolution by Thomas Van der Velden, load in the TVR_extra.wad at the end of your load order for some additional Stone flavoring (and some bonus map30 action)

Hey, do you think you could re-add the old Doom styled armor sprites for the bust part of the HUD as an addon?
They'd require complete re-spriting, and I'm not sure how well they'd fit the theme anymore. Have you tried messing with the armor visual options? There's some practical ballistic armor that looks fairly similar to the vanilla doom stuff.
I have tried those sprites but they don't really hit for me. They're a bit too tactical and not really fitting the cheesy look that makes it Doom for me.
Ah I totally get, you, yeah. I'll keep it in mind, might add some doom-inspired armor next update/bugfix!
Thank you!!
Hi, loving the mod so far! Just a quick question, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change the HUD's appearance in-game. It looks like a normal Doom HUD, and not at all like it does in the screenshots.
- or + should do the trick, if not you might have to go into the sourceport's HUD options and turn off "alternate hud"
Congratulations on the Cacoward!
Do you recommend enemy packs for this mod in Zandronum?
Just wondering: I've seen videos with Stone's full character portrait in the bottom left of the HUD, but I can't seem to enable that in-game. Are custom HUDs not supported that well by UZDoom right now, or is this just something I'm missing lol
Edit: if you can believe it, I've just now noticed that the screenshots on this very page have the HUD set up in the exact way I described
Good question, unless UZDoom has changed the default keybinds the plus and minus keys should change the HUD type
Doesn’t seem to work that way in it, unfortunately! It gives me a similar minimalist HUD to the one seen in the screenshots, but without her character portrait
Damn, that's bizarre. I'll look into it and hopefully get that workin for ya.
I haven't used uzdoom yet myself, all my playtesting is done on zandronum so there's very likely some kind of zscript hud fuckery going on there that's messin with my shit lol
Reporting back after trying it in UZDoom, the HUD works fine for me but it crashes when I fire a weapon lmao (seems to be a hardware issue with my old ass laptop)
Can you run zandronum on your system? That might be your best bet for now.
Just occurred to me to ask if you've checked your load order? That's all I can think it could be at this point.
Go into options and turn alternate HUD off. This was an issue I had with Showtime, maybe it work with Stone.
Hi there! downloaded the mod today and I love it. though I do have some issues, not being able to reload, not being able to find the reload bind, and whenever I pick ammo for a weapon the picked ammo does not register (like picking up bullets for the Galactic Eagle while its ammo count is at 12 and the ammo amount stays at 12).
Apart from that, really cool mod! please do respond when you can and want to.
Check your autoload, the Pvt Stone Options menu, and any other mods you might be loading alongside this one.
Ah wait lmao sounds like you just don't have reload bound, just go to the controls menu and set it there.
Noted. I'll see what I can do. thank you so much! hopefully you are doing well.
Yup, that was the issue. for some reason I couldnt find it for a while. but now its fixed and it works properly. thank you again!
Loving the updates. The new rifle? Baller.
I'm trying to figure out how the hip check system works, though. It seems kinda hard to intentionally pull off. What triggers it? A certain speed? Certain angle?
It only works if your movement speed is anything above 0, mechanically it's a series of short-range projectiles. Easiest way to use it is to walk toward an enemy and spin into em, just like closing a door when your hands are full lol
It seems that it only works if you’re spinning counter-clockwise, though.
Hey, sorry to bother again, but I was wondering if it was possible to get the bases and resources for this mod's graphical elements (mainly the UI's paperdoll-like element) - assuming these exist aside from what's inside the WAD file. To be clear, I don't intend on using any of those to release anything without explicitly asking for permission beforehand; it'll only be for personal use/learning.
I didn't find another way to reach you, so apologies if this is the wrong place for it. Either way, thanks for all the help so far.
Nah contacting me here is perfectly fine, I hardly use any other social media type sites anymore lol. What specifically do you wanna learn from the UI stuff- I don't have much to offer that isn't in the wad but I could direct you to some helpful learning resources if you wanna build specific skills there.
Mostly in regards to implementing the paperdoll, and if it's possible, making variations within already existing outfits. I'm terrible at art tho, but I can do simple enough edits.
Oh and how do you edit weapon sprites so the arms match Pvt. Stone's, or Magwell's or any other female character? I mean in terms of proportions and such.
Well the armor overlay is displayed using SBARINFO to show the current armor's icon, and the extra blood details are added in a hacky home-made method based on how the face works. As far as outfit editing goes, I usually just slap down some blocks of color with a pixel brush in the general shape and then add shading later, that makes it easy to keep everything tidy.Just gotta make sure you leave her sleeves off if you want the extra damage levels to be visible (the blood splatters on her chest will be visible regardless)
In relation to arm sprites, unless it's a full-on arm out punch frame i just take vanilla arms, take off the hair, add some extra sinews and detail the gloves (doing this all in monochrome and then recoloring in slade helps). In Stone's case I make her look a bit beefier cuz she's built like a warhammer dwarf lol but for most other female characters it could help to shave off bits at the sides of the arm for a less brawny look.
Bit of a strange question: if I wanted to disable the episode selection for Space Britain (to speed up starting up the loaded map WAD), is it correct for me to create a MAPINFO lump inside a WAD file (the patch file, because I don't want to mess with the original file) like so:
Episode STONEM1 { Remove }Or does that break things and/or cause unintended side effects?
That looks like it should do the trick, yeah!
Awesome mod, honestly a worthy successor to Typhon. I love the HUD sprite.
One question: are you okay with me sharing compatibility patches for this with other mods? Mod, singular, is more appropriate here since it's just for ZMovement.
Sure!
Here it is. Just like other ZMovement patches, it's standalone and doesn't need ZMovement installed. Sorry for the delay.
Oh and let me know if I need to fix anything. The way the patching method works is by making the actor type inherit from ZMovement's player actor, instead of PlayerPawn and to rename the actor; I switched over all references to it to the new one, but if I missed any, let me know.
That all seems to work fine, I hadn't tried zmovement before so it was pretty nuts seeing Stone nipping around like that lol. Would you be ok with me crediting you and adding this to the main downloads?
Sure, go ahead ^^
Oh, don't forget to credit Ivory Duke (the creator of ZMovement).
Idea for ya, a mecha fighter game with classes and unlockable Mechas. The story would be that the Red Star Empire killed your family with a mecha. So you're gonna return the favor the exact same way.
Can you make a dehacked of this pls
Her jump voiceline sounds like OoT Link's hupps/noises, just wanted to say that right off the bat. Kinda funny imo.
Anyhow, love the weapons and sprites, love the sorta drum-beat that holding reload with the rocket launcher results in. Especially love double-loading the Super Shotgun.
Kinda prefer the vanilla plasma rifle's projectiles but apart from that all the weapons are an upgrade, even the fists and pistol. I can count on one hand the amount of games/mods I've played that make the pistol feel poqweful and this is one of those few. Hell, it's not even that the plasma rifle is outright bad or a downgrade, probably even an upgrade, I just prefer the look of the normal one spewing a line of projectiles instead of the spread of this one.
10/10, must-have mod for Doom players.
Oh, what of the Enemy sets? Level sets?
If you're asking which level sets I recommend, read the description.
Thanks! And what Enemy sets do you recommend? Anything crazy?
Loving this mod! Just finished Revolution!.wad and it was a blast. You did a amazing work! Any chance of posting a version of the mod with just Pvt. Stone HUD? I would love to play with her with wads like Ashes without turning the stalker/fallout vibe into pure british badassery.
Ah I don't know about that, some of the hud elements are tied into mod-specific gameplay stuff and a stand-alone version would lack a lot of features (custom armor/weapon graphics, additional facial expressions, universal ammo displays etc). Glad you had fun with the mod though!
Oh hey, Skelegant! Ya got another entry within Mr. Icarusliv3s' mod portfolio!
>load up .wad with recommended mapset
>opening train level goes great
>load into next map, start taking damage over time in seemingly random areas
>ismyloadorderbiffed.jpg
>go into mod settings just in case
>see option for British Sun Damage
>it's on by default
what a legend
...aight, I feel like a blithering idiot here lol, so uhhhhh how do you enable the alt hud with the bust view of Pvt. Stone in the bottom left corner?
assuming youre using gzdoom
options - scaling options - screen size : set to 11
options - full options menu - hud options - alternative hud - enable alternative hud : off
enjoy
I wanted to download one of the older versions, but Itch.io only lets me access the most recent version. I was wondering if you could make a old version download.
Which version in particular are you after?
I was looking specifically for V4
Uploaded a zip folder with that and a couple others in, have at it champ!
Perfect, thanks a lot for doing that.
Genuinely an incredible mod. I have a lot of fun going through mapsets with these. Well done!
Thank you!
I'm curious what the music list for British Power is! A lot of these are pretty good. I can recognize at the very least the Takyon part of that mashup, but I'd kill for the full list.
(If I had a nickel for every time I've asked a mod creator for the list of their kickass female protagonist's murder playlist, I'd have two nickels.)
They're all listed in the wad's credits file, if you crack it open with Slade it's the one right at the top.
I don't think I left a link to that Death Grips mashup in the credits though so I'll drop that here:
Thanks! Went and downloaded SLADE immediately. Thanks a ton!
Just found a teensy visual bug when played with mods that add inventory items. The icons for items cover the red and blue meters while using the fists and sword (and partially obscure them with the BFG). When using any other weapon, they don't cover the meters at all. Other than that, this weapon set friggin' ROCKS, and I can't believe I didn't touch this sooner.
"Teensy visual bug" is a very generous way to put it lmao that's a pretty heinous oversight on my part, thanks for bringing it to my attention! Will get that dealt with soon.
I love your art style so sad you only make female leads its kind of breaks immersion for me i wish you could make versions of the mods without any sound at least i could pretend they are male protagonists ..
is it hard to remove the sounds myself?
Well there's plenty of mods out there with male protags, buuuuuuuut if you wanted to perhaps play Echidna as a big hunky robot dude with dubious morals (which thinking about it sounds even better than the original lol)
I'd suggest grabbing SLADE3, opening the thing up, finding all the player sounds and replacing em with like, SFV Akuma sounds (you can get em on the Sounds Resource) and then replacing the mugshot with one of your choosing (couple custom frames in there, shouldn't be too hard to rename extras of your own)
In Pvt Stone's case I'd suggest the same tactic, but if that all is too much effort for you just deleting the mugshots and player sounds will do the job.
I really liked this power trip.
Glad you had fun! Love that thumbnail lol
Just began playing this and I'm liking it!
Its like vanilla arsenal++ with a couple cool extra mechanics. Overall feels balanced even if mildly more powerful than default doomguy, but not as devastating as GD_Echidna from your other mod.
I love how the armor is visible/changes in the portrait of the HUD based on whether I have it or not. Definitely worth playing!
NP, I'm mainly posting to encourage others to play the mod as I love the style and tone of them because its unique and well done. 💪
For input, all I can say is to add an F1 info screen for the extra mechanics (barrel using, berserk, kick anything), etc. I didn't even use half the mechanics until I looked up the itch page to realize they were there lol.
Funnily enough I haven't even gotten to using the melee and berserk even once because the weapons alone are already so much fun!
Btw, does the kick props addon work with any other weapon set mod too?
Oh I should totally add an f1 screen, good call! I added one to Echidna but never thought to do the same here for some reason.
I'm not sure how many other mods the kickable props work with as most of the functionality is in Stone's kick itself (which is why it works with any monster pack) BUT I know for sure the props add-on works with Echidna at least.
Skelegant back at it with another BANGER
Hi, can you please make the projectiles (rockets, plasma and bfg shots) auto-aiming? I play with freelook off so this makes the mod unusable as projectiles only go straight ahead.
Well ain't that a heck of a thing, I disabled that while playtesting and I guess forgot to enable it again! I'll get that sorted for you, check back in a couple hours (gonna take the opportunity to make a few other QoL tweaks too lol)
Great stuff, cheers! I really like the weapons and will most likely be using this mod as my main while playing.
I appreciate the kind words! V4's done, autoaim is working now along with some extra iwad compatibility stuff.
